The Arts Academy at First Christian Church serves to develop the next generation of artists – trained with excellence for the task of ministry. It also serves as an avenue for growing disciples of Jesus Christ and expressing his love for people in our community.

Arts Academy for Fall 2022


Arts Academy fall classes begin Thursday, September 22, and we have classes for all ages - including adults! See below for a complete list of our class offerings and descriptions. Note that most classes will meet the following Thursdays:

September 22 & 29    October 6, 13, & 20  •  November 3, 10, & 17    December 1 & 8

Registration opens Monday, August 29.

K-1 Arts Exploration

Time:  5:30-6:30 pm
Number of Students:  10
Ages:  K - 1st grade

Students K-1st grade will have the opportunity throughout the course of the class to explore different artistic disciplines. Students will have age-appropriate activities that will teach them some basics in each of the areas of art including: music, drawing/painting, dance, singing, drama and culinary arts.

2nd - 3rd Grade Art

Time:  5:30 - 6:30 pm
Number of Students:  9
Ages:  2nd - 3rd Grade

Students will learn art skills and techniques like color theory, sketching, design and much more.  A variety of mediums such as watercolors, colored pencils, marker, pastels and more will be used to create unique and one-of-a-kind masterpieces.

4th – 6th Grade Art

Time:  5:30 - 6:30 pm
Number of Students:  9
Ages:  4th – 6th Grade

Students will learn art skills and techniques like color theory, design, contour drawing, and much more. A variety of mediums such as watercolors, colored pencils, marker, pastels, paints, canvas and more will be used to create unique and one-of-a-kind masterpieces.

Beginner Painting

(note earlier start time)
Time:  5:00 - 6:30 pm
Number of Students:  10
Ages:  5th grade - Adult

Beginner painting will teach students the basics of acrylic painting. Students will have the opportunity to create a variety of pieces throughout the course of the class.

Mixed Media Art

Time:  5:30 - 6:30pm
Number of Students:  10
Ages:  5th grade - Adults

Students will continue to build their fundamental art skills through a wide variety of mediums including inks, watercolor, marker, and a variety of other mediums.

Paper Art Class

Time:  5:30 - 6:30 pm
Number of Students:  10
Ages:  6th grade - Adult

Students will learn a variety of techniques for using paper to create beautiful projects such as handmade cards, Mosaic art and a variety of other paper based projects.

Culinary Arts

Time:  5:30-6:30 pm
Number of Students:  10
Ages:  5th - 12th grade

Students have the opportunity in Culinary Arts class to learn kitchen tools and safety. They will also learn to read and follow a recipe and how to make a variety of dishes.

Drama

(note earlier start time)
Time:  5:00-6:30 pm
Number of Students:  15
Ages:  6th - 12th grade

Drama students will have the opportunity to learn staging, voicing, and many other aspects of theater over the course of the class. Students will have opportunity to perform in smaller skits and a larger production at the end of the semester.

K - Lyrical Dance

Time:  5:30 - 6:30 pm
Number of Students:  10
Ages:  K - 4th grade

Students will learn dance technique with a lyrical style and worship focus. Dancers will learn lyrical routines that will be incorporated into worship.

Sewing

(note earlier start time)
Time:  5:00 - 6:30 pm
Number of Students:  5
Ages:  4th grade - Adult

Students will learn the basics of machine and hand sewing, as well as how to read and work from a pattern. Students will learn how to properly use a sewing machine and will create a variety of projects throughout the year.

Adult Art Class

(Thursday mornings)
Time:  9:00 - 11:00am
Number of Students:  10
Ages:  Adults

Beginners will learn the process to plan, design and create pieces of art using a variety of artistic mediums.

Youth Choir

(Sunday mornings: November 6, 13, 20, & 27)
Time:  10:00 - 10:30am
Number of Students:  Unlimited
Ages:  K - 12th grade

Students will learn the fundamentals of singing and will work on music to sing during weekend worship services the weekend of December 10/11.
