THE BIBLE IN 10 MINUTES, 5 DAYS A WEEK
If you missed last week’s plan, check out Week 2 here.
WEEK THREE
Hello and welcome to week three of the Off the Shelf bible reading plan. We hope week two was an opportunity to reflect on Creation, sin, and the beginning of God’s plan for redemption. This week, let’s take a look at the book of Exodus. While the book of Exodus focuses on the story of Moses, it also reveals God’s presence, promises, power, liberation, and sacrifice. Keep those things in mind as you read this week.
DAY 1 | As we enter the book of Exodus, the Israelites have grown significantly in number. However, Joseph and his brothers have died. A new King in Egypt, who knew nothing of Joseph, has come to power and forced the Israelites into slavery. In the midst of this setting, the first two chapters of Exodus introduce us to Moses and God establishing his relationship with Moses. Today, read Exodus Chapters 2 & 3.
DAY 2 | Between Chapter 3 and Chapter 12, God uses Moses to free the Israelites from oppression in Egypt. God does this in the form of 10 plagues. Chapters 12-14 capture the tenth plague, and God’s deliverance of his people from Egypt. Today, read Exodus Chapters 12 – 14.
DAY 3 | In Chapters 15 – 17, we see the beginning of Israel’s journey across the wilderness to Mount Sinai, where they would receive God’s covenant. These chapters highlight God’s provision and instruction for his people. Today, read Exodus 15:22-17:16.
DAY 4 | Today we read about God’s covenant with his people. Chapters 19 and 20 capture the people at Mount Sinai and the giving of the Ten Commandments. Today, read Exodus Chapters 19 & 20.
DAY 5 | Chapters 21-31 of Exodus contain the remainder of God’s covenant with his people and instructions about how his people are to worship him. If you have the opportunity, take the time to read these chapters this week. For today’s reading, we will focus on Chapter 32 of Exodus. This chapter captures one of the saddest moments in Israel’s history. After watching God bring them out of Egypt, provide for them, and show up powerfully on Mount Sinai, they betray him in a moment of panic. Today, read Exodus 32.
Thank you for joining us this week. Please feel free to share thoughts and reflections from your reading on our Off the Shelf Facebook Group.
THE BIBLE IN 90 DAYS
Also, If you are looking for a challenge, it’s not too late to jump into the Bible in 90 days plan. This plan is designed to walk you through the Bible over the course of just three months. That works out to 12 pages of reading each day—a commitment, but certainly manageable, and one that’s well worth making.
