Loving Those Around Us

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

As Pastor Brian shared this weekend, this passage isn’t just for married people. Marriage paints a picture of the way Jesus loves his Church. Healthy marriages show us that we must love and respect one another even when it’s difficult. Choosing to love and respect our spouse makes it possible for us to remain united as one flesh.

If you are married, how does your marriage reflect the love Jesus has for the church? How does it not? Whether you are married or not, how are you showing love and respect to the people you are closest with? What is one way you could do better?

Take time today to thank God for his incredible love for us and for uniting us to him through Jesus. Pray for your spouse — or those closest to you — that God would help you to love and respect them well.
